Admit Until Date

An Admit Until Date is the date on a United States Form I-94 through which a person is authorized to remain after a particular admission, unless an approved extension or other authorized change modifies the period.

It is different from the expiration date on a visa. The visa is generally used to request entry; the I-94 records the terms of the admission that actually occurred.

Effective September 15, 2026, F, J and I nonimmigrants moved from duration-of-status admissions to fixed periods. For those categories, checking the I-94 date after entry is especially important.

An incorrect record or an approaching deadline can have serious consequences. The term describes a record, not an individualized conclusion about lawful status.
