Electronic visa
An electronic visa, commonly called an e-visa, is a visa applied for,
processed, issued, or delivered through an online government system.
The exact process varies. Some governments issue a digital approval
linked to the passport; others provide a document that must be printed
or presented during travel. An online application does not guarantee
approval or admission.
For global nomads, an e-visa can reduce the need to visit an embassy
or submit paper documents. It can also make applying while outside one’s
country of citizenship more practical, depending on the eligibility
rules.
An electronic visa is not the same as visa exemption. Visa exemption
allows eligible travelers to request entry without first obtaining a
visa. An e-visa remains a visa and may restrict purpose, duration,
entries, and permitted activities.
It should also not be confused with a digital nomad visa. Electronic
describes the application or issuance method, not the immigration rights
granted. An e-visa does not imply permission to work remotely unless the
underlying visa category expressly allows it.
