Solomon Islands implements electronic visa system

The Solomon Islands Government has confirmed the implementation of an
electronic visa system that can handle applications, processing,
approvals, and decisions online.
The government announcement was dated September 6 and published
September 7, 2026. It describes an administrative change in how visa
applications are managed, not a new visa category.
What changed
Travelers who require a visa can now use an electronic process rather
than relying entirely on a paper-based or in-person workflow. The system
is designed to move the application and decision process online.
The launch announcement establishes the system’s implementation. Detailed application guidance depends on the Immigration Division’s current category information and online instructions.
Who is affected
The change matters primarily to travelers who must obtain a visa
before traveling to the Solomon Islands. Travelers whose nationality
qualifies for another entry arrangement should check the rules applying
to their own passport and intended purpose.
An electronic visa is still a visa. Moving the process online does
not mean that entry is visa-free, that approval is automatic, or that
every traveler is eligible to apply through the same route.
What it means for global
nomads
Online processing can reduce the need to submit documents through a
physical diplomatic office. That may make preparation easier for people
applying while living outside their country of citizenship.
The system does not create a digital nomad visa and does not announce
permission to work remotely in the Solomon Islands. Visa approval, entry
permission, and work authorization remain separate questions.
What travelers should do
Use only a government-confirmed portal. Before submitting personal
documents or paying a fee, verify the web address, responsible agency,
eligibility rules, required documents, and available support
